Terence Kemp McKenna ( November 16, 1946 – April 3, 2000) was a writer and philosopher. He was notable for his many speculations on subjects ranging from the Voynich Manuscript, the origins of the human species to Novelty theory.

Novelty theory claims time to be a fractal wave of increasing novelty (or creativity, complexity).

This novelty wave, when synthesized using his mathematically based computer program culminates dramatically in 2012.The meaning of this culmination was once described by Terence, “Because of the speeding up of this wave of novelty we will discover infinitely higher amounts of novelty between now and 2012 in comparison with the big-bang up until now.”

His concept appeared to involve a combination of Entheogens, hallucinogenic chemical agents, Gaianism, and shamanism.
