Date Raped Woman Imprisoned for 40 Years
February 7th, 2007On May 22 1999, Emily Dowdy went to a bar with a friend. Emily doesn’t remember much from that night, except dancing with a man and going out to her car with that man. The next thing she remembered is waking up in the hospital after being involved in a car accident, driving on the wrong way on a highway hitting another car and killing the driver. But, it wasn’t just a simple case of drunk driving. Emily Dowdy believes she was given a spiked drink laced with a date rape drug, GHB, possibly raped, and then returned to her car. At the scene of the accident she was naked from the waist down. The hospital she was admitted to did not test her blood for GHB and she was not given a rape test. Now, she is serving a 40 year prison sentence for drunk driving, despite faulty evidence in the case and because she refused to admit she was driving under the influence.
