RARE Footage : Moonflower Blooms Beautiful

August 2nd, 2008

An ode to the mythical hallucinatory properties of Jimsonweed. Also known as the moonflower, the thornapple, and datura. It is highly recommended that no one actually experiment with this plant unless, of course, you are into a long, slow, painful demise.or so the other half of the myth goes.

The Moonflower, or Jimson weed to some, blooms in the early evening for one night only and emits a faint musky-jungle scent. What a beautiful Clip!

Shamans of the Amazon - Great Documentary

February 13th, 2007

Excellent documentary about the Amazonian Shamans and their use of the sacred Ayahuasca vine to communicate with the Spirits of the Forest. Includes footage of peaceful drug-prohibition protests, an interview with Terence Mckenna, criticism of the so called “war on drugs” (essentially a form of cultural genocide), the corruption within large oil companies and governments, many civil rights issues, etc.

During the making of this film: * 16 million acres of Amazon Rainforest was destroyed. * 150,000 species became extinct. * In Ecuador, 9 oil spills released millions of gallons of crude oil into the head waters of the Amazon. * Scientists worldwide agreed that Global Warming and climate change is a major threat facing all life on Earth. * Natural disasters including volcanic eruptions increased. * In the Netherlands, the case against the Santo Daime was thrown out of court. The judge found Ayahuasca use was not a risk to public health and their constitutional right to freedom of religion must be respected. * Spain, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, Belguim and The Netherlands decriminalised most drugs. * The USA gave the Taliban in Afghanistan $43 million dollars for the War on Drugs. * The USA was voted off the United Nations Human Rights Commision. * Humanity stands at the crossroads

Sacred Weeds - Henbane Video

Henbane in flowerHenbane (Hyoscyamus niger) is a plant of the family Solanaceae that originated in Eurasia, though it is now globally distributed.

It was historically used in combination with other plants, such as Mandrake , Deadly Nightshade, and Datura as an anaesthetic potion, as well as for its psychoactive properties in magic brews. Its usage was originally in continental Europe and Asia, though it did spread to England sometime during the Middle Ages. The use of Henbane by the ancient Greeks was documented by Pliny. The plant, recorded as Herba Apollinaris, was used to yield oracles by the priestesses of Apollon.

Henbane can be toxic in low doses. Its name came from Anglo-Saxon hennbana = “killer of hens”. Hyoscyamine, scopolamine, and other tropane alkaloids have been found in the foliage and seeds of the plant.

Common effects of henbane use in humans include hallucinations, dilated pupils, restlessness, and flushed skin. Less common symptoms such as tachycardia, convulsions, vomiting, hypertension, hyperpyrexia and ataxia have all been noted. Despite this it is used as a food plant by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including Cabbage Moth.

It was traditionally used in German pilsner beers as a flavouring, until the Bavarian Purity Law was passed in 1516 and outlawed the use of Henbane and allowed only the use of hops.

Henbane or Hyoscyamus was also known to have been used as an anesthetic in the first Arab hospitals.

Henbane is the etymology of the Czech town Plzeƈ and pilsener beer.

Video of two guys high on Jimson Weed

January 2nd, 2007

Watch the Inside Edition video segment on Jimson Weed which depicts two young men under the influence of the Jimson Weed, also known as Datura. What they seem to be experiencing is commonly reported among those bold enough to dive into datura. Experiences include severe hallucinations such as seeing and communicating to people that no one else can see, smoking cigarettes that do not exist and talking to “dead” people. What is interesting about this film is the common experience and hallucinations the two seem to share when they both enjoy an invisible cigarette together. Hallucinations experienced under Jimson Weed are unlike the hallucinations experienced through other psychedelic and hallucinogenic drugs such as mushrooms and LSD.

Best to leave ingestion of this plant to the dedicated shamans among us. A lovely ornamental plant to grow, especially if you would like to attract hawkmoths to your yard at night with her powerful aroma.

jimson.jpgDatura stramonium, also called Jimson Weed, gypsum weed, Loco Weed, Jamestown Weed, Thorn Apple, Angel’s Trumpet, and Zombie’s Cucumber is a common poisonous weed in the Nightshade Family. It contains tropane alkaloids that are sometimes used as a hallucinogen. The active ingredients are atropine, hyoscyamine and scopolamine which are classified as deliriants, or anticholinergics.

The effects of Datura have been described as a living dream: consciousness falls in and out, people who don’t exist or are miles away are conversed with etc. The effects can last for days. Tropane alkaloids are some of the few substances which cause true hallucinations which cannot be distinguished from reality. It may be described as a “real” trance when a user under the effect can be awake but completely disconected from his immediate environment. In this case, the user would ignore most stimili and respond to unreal ones. This is unlike psylocybin or LSD, which only cause sensory distortions. - Wiki
