i agree grow bags kinda suck, go to substraight . com pre made jars, and ralphsters spores. both legit, i was successful the very first time with jars and then crumbling cakes and casing them, got a about a quater dry out of each jar.
it looks like you bashed the bag up a bit as the sides are covered in stuff. i didnt heat the needle and mine have done alright. You should just get the bag, inject 5ccs of solution in it and leave for a month or two in a warm dark area until white appears. then mash the bag up a bit to spread the white. then when the white is fully formed you go from there. just inoculate the bag and forget about it for a while. if you are inpatient and keep touching the bag they wont grow.
yea dude flax seed speed things up a lot. Just add a lil though maybe like 1/4 cup of it. Next time around im gonna do that and try adding a lil flax seed oil to it as well. it makes the jars grow like superman on ice
I dont think i see a contamination… any odd smells ? Injecting too much spore solution could cause this to happen , it takes only a few spores to start a mycelium branch and you have managed to inject x100 too much
doesnt matter how warm it is. the mycelium will still grow. the temp just affects at what rate rate it grows. should be between 70-75 f. any higher and its likely to get contams.
I haven’t done this b4 but it seems that the mycelia hates direct light. You have to keep them in the dark for weeks and when you peek you have to look in-direct light . When you break it up to mix it you kill most of it. You have to wait till it gets to 75% b4 breaking up and mixing. This will kill it still but it will come back really quick.
It looked fine to me, it’s just a different kind of substrate thats all. When you watch the vidoe it looks like he injected too much cc’s in the bag and didn’t let it to fully colonize. A little bit goes a long way. I have done the exact same thing he did. It’s either too many cc’s, or not sufficient heating temperatures, Not clowning, just telling you from my previous experience.
I think your mushbag is too wet!! Mushbags are esay to innoculate and hard to contamine, so, I don’t think cleanliness was a problem. Temperature is crucial (28-32) as it controls the speed of collonization and the faster, the less the risk of contamination.

August 2nd, 2010 at 4:10 am
try making some jars,
then spawn the jars to the bag, faster and safer.

where is a good site to get spores
August 6th, 2010 at 9:02 am
wipe the innoculation port and needle with IPA, put in a dark cool spot
August 6th, 2010 at 4:15 pm
Take a look at my channel we have kits that put this to shame. already colonized as well.

@CalisCool I use pure whole organic brown rice for a PF substrate , they seem to like it. does flax seed help all that much ?
August 10th, 2010 at 10:04 am
Sounds like a nice best time. I’m looking at around 6 weeks myself. Using PF jars with flax seed added. My mycobag is just a sour mess right now lol.

@CalisCool my personal best is 1 month , colonization and fruiting
August 13th, 2010 at 9:33 pm
To much spore solution was the cause of infection probably. try 2-3 cc’s next time
August 14th, 2010 at 5:45 pm
Why so much spore solution. That was like 8 or 9cc’s instead of 2 or 3
August 15th, 2010 at 8:36 am
it should NEVER take that long. You should be able to get a full harvest in less than 8weeks. and even 8 weeks is a bit much…
August 15th, 2010 at 8:58 am
Don’t swab the inoculation point. You are just spreading the dirt around.

i did it its takes several mounths! did mine in october and im just now seeing some fungus..

Oooo that stinks man. Im gonna attempt this myself in a week or two. Where did you get your spores/growbag from?
